Artist-Designed 18kt Gold and Enamel Oiseaux Brooch, Georges Braque, designed as two abstract form en plein enamel birds flying above a textured cloud, 2 3/4 x 2 in. , French maker's mark, no. 218, signed Bijoux de G. Braques, (enamel stress). Note: Georges Braque (1882-1963) was a contemporary of Picasso and founder of the Cubist movement. He was the first modern master whose jewelry was exhibited during his lifetime at the Louvre, which subsequently purchased twelve of his hundred designs for its Galerie d'Apollon. The exhibition traveled throughout the world for nineteen years. Birds, which appear often in Braque's late work, symbolized creative aspiration for the artist. 38.2 dwt
