Artist-Designed 18kt Gold and Enamel Ring, Piero Dorazio, composed of three bands with six enamel bars, joining to form one of Dorazio's vibrantly colored geometric pictures, size 6 1/4, no. 23/25, marked Gm for Gem Montebello, and PD. Note: Piero Dorazio (1927-2005) began his career studying architecture in Rome and was a leading figure in bringing the avant-garde into Italy. An invitation from Harvard University brought him to the United States in 1953, putting him in touch with Abstract Expressionists Marc Rothko, Robert Motherwell, Willem de Kooning, and others. He also exhaustively read Kandinsky's essays on immaterial aspects in painting, which would greatly influence his work. His compositions of the 1960s contrasted rich colors and geometric forms, which would dominate his work from that time on.
