Engraved by Eugene Froment (French, 1844-1900) after the painting by Richard Caton Woodville II (American, 1856-1927). "Settling a Frontier Dispute", handcolored engraving, published circa 1890. Engraving depicts a scene from the Balkans Wars of 1912-1913 in which two men battle heatedly with swords at the edge of a cliff as two Ottoman or Serbian soldiers approach up a hillside to the right. Signed within plate lower left "R.C.Woodville" and lower right "Froment", inscribed below image center "Settling a Frontier Dispute, R.C. Woodville". Framed approximately 30" x 22.5", sight size 20.5" x 13".
