Pair of English Needlework Pictures, mid 19th century, oval format, stitched with chenille and silk threads on silk ground, with ink and watercolor detailing to faces and hands, one depicting a gentleman courting a lass in a wheat harvesting scene, the other a lady having her palm read by an old woman with a knitting basket by a house and a waterfall, both with gold and black painted eglomise mats in giltwood rectangular frames, sight lg. 13, frames 18 1/2 x 16 1/2 in. both with spot of loss to gold paint of mat at lower center. palm reading scene with spots of black paint loss to right and left sides as well, and with vertical tears to silk ground (the largest being approx. 2 1/2"). courting scene with beginning of a horizontal tear at space between man and woman's faces. both with overall toning/fading and age wear to silk ground. Frames modern.
