Miniature Top Hat with Hatbox, c. 1870, the tan flocked top hat with black leatherette band and brim, ht. 2.75, in fitted tan calf-covered paper box, the lid with pasted-down handwritten note reading "for Lou, with the love of Middleton, Christmas 1870," the underside of box annotated "For little Lou from Cousin Mid, Christmas 1870," (hat with minor edge loss, box with losses to strap, age wear, and separations of top seam of lid).
