Boston silk and paint on silk needlework embroidery, ca. 1805 , attributed to Mrs. Rowson's Academy, titled "Landing of Columbus", the original reverse painted mat with title and name, "Jane Seely". This work belongs to a small group of needleworks done after the print "The Landing of Christopher Columbus", engraved by David Edwin, 1776-1841, after a painting by Edward Savage, pub. 1800, 24 1/2" x 18 1/2". This work is nearly identical to one illustrated in Antiques , Aug. 1976, 293-294 by Rowson student Margaret Mitchell, and another inscribed ""wrought by Miss Abbey Low, at Mrs. Rowson's Academy", illustrated in Antiques , Oct. 1992, 421. A similar example is illustrated in Girlhood Embroidery by Betty Ring, vol. I, pl. 95.
