American School, early 20th century. "Surrealist Figural Procession", oil on canvas, inscribed lower right "Madeleine L. eng" and to verso of stretcher "M. Levey". Painting depicts a short figural procession of two Neoclassical women toward a seated figure, the front female placing a crown or garland on the seated figure's head, a standing figure between the two women holds a long spear as he looks over the scene, each figure's face being heavily abstracted, the scene backed by a loose landscape of blue over tan. Framed approximately 35" x 41", unframed approximately 30" x 36".
