Two Newcomb Pottery Vases Clay with glossy overglaze New Orleans, Louisiana, c. 1902 Glossy red brown underglaze with green drips, flambe style on dark clay body, possibly an experimental piece, incised M, NC cipher and a G or a Q, ht. 3; and a wide mouth vase with tapering form, inner rim in green glaze, outer rim and shoulder in black on olive green body, artist's initials on base, GRS for Gertrude Roberts Smith, JM for Joseph Meyer Potter, NC cipher for Newcomb College and Q for buff clay, ht. 6 3/4 in. Provenance: From the family of William E. Roberts. Mr. Roberts's sister was Gertrude Roberts Smith, an early member of the Newcomb College faculty.
