George III Inlaid Mahogany Piano Forte, maker's mark Charles May, London, circa 1790, of typical form with rectangular case, enameled maker's plaque and inlaid with pendant husks on a satinwood ground, the stand with square tapered legs and a shelf stretcher, ht. 32, wd. 62, dp. 22 1/2 in. Medial shelf with crack to right side; shelf supports restored/replaced. Enamel maker's plaque with overall matrix of hairline cracks. End of 16 keys with replaced ivory. Restorations to sections of inlay. Top with surface scratching. With overall age typical scuffs, scratches, edge nicks. unable to comment fully as to whether the piece is playable, or restorable as an instrument, although the strings seem intact, and the action on the keys seems relatively normal.
