German Carved Fruitwood and Ivory Figure Group ,"The Fortune Teller", signed C. L. Haebler, Baden Baden, and dated 1901, depicting a tavern scene of two cavaliers in 17th century dress, one leaning over a table bearing a pitcher and a flask, a serving woman standing nearby, the other seated in a chair having his palm read by an old woman, on rectangular base with ebonized edge, set with ivory title plaque, the base signed to right front corner, ht. approx. 8 1/2, base wd. 13, dp. 8 in. surface grime. the leaning figure needs reattaching (clean break at his left knee, and to join of right foot to base. a few losses throughout to some of the accessories, including item in right hand of standing cavalier, and some items on table. losses to leather straps of sword belts. piece of lace collar of seated cavalier glued back on. pinkie finger of right hand of standing cavalier glued on. minor old glue repairs throughout.
