Large French Aesthetic Movement Earthenware Charger, third quarter 19th century, with impressed Montereau and Barluet & Cie. mark, with red overglazed painter's initials FD, finely painted with a colorful parrot alighting on a flowering prunus branch, with inset of fan painted with river scene, and roundel enclosing fish, jellyfish and kelp, all on geometric trelliswork ground, gilt accenting throughout, dia. 19 3/8 in. possible restored rim chip (that area of rim is a bit thinner than the others, and the glaze is slightly different). Firing flaw (possibly from footrim of another charger) in the goldfish vignette that the painter has incorporated into the design as a bending kelp frond. minor light glaze crazing, and very minor gilt wear.
