Ivory Diptych Sundial by Lienhart Miler, Nuremburg, Germany, dated 1613, black and red coloring, the cover wind rose with sixteen directions labeled in German, sun face at center and foliate decoration (lacking wind vane), inside a pin gnomon dial labeled Quantits Diei with zodiacal symbols, inner compass bowl with faint fleur-de-lys, cardinal directions labeled SEPT, ORIE, MERI, OCCI and sun and moon decoration and marked Lienhart Miler 1618 , on the reverse a German lunar volvelle with central brass disc, scales 1-12 twice, outer ring calibrated 1-29 with faint maker's mark near hinge, all on small brass feet, 3 5/8 x 2 3/16 in. Hinges and clasps all appear to be intact, lacking wind vane, compass needle and crystal are replacements, age consistent wear.
