Hatted Wax Over Composition Shoulder Head Lady Doll, c. 1860s-70s, with closed mouth, inset blue glass eyes, pierced ears with earrings, stylish green riding hat trimmed with paper flower and ribbon over applied blonde mohair waterfall curls at side of head, forming a chignon held in place with a snood at the back, cloth body with carved wooden hands and green booted feet, in original white tartelane flounced and pleated dress, yellow silk satin neck scarf and sash, and original white cotton undergarments, ht. 16 1/2 in., (some retouch and discoloration on face, fabrics toned). Note: This distinctive hair style was made popular by the Empress Eugenie, who wore it with her riding habit.
