Early Papier-Mache Shoulder Head Lady Doll, c. 1840s, with upturned chin, closed mouth, painted brown eyes, molded center-parted black hair looped and braided over exposed ears and falling in long curls at back of neck, white kid body, carved and painted wood lower limbs, and orchid-painted slippers, dressed by in Estelle Winthrop in c. 1845 style costume of fine antique orchid and white striped silk taffeta with Alencon lace trim, and white cotton undergarments, (toned), ht. 20 1/4 in. Provenance: Purchased from the auction of Estelle Winthrop's collection, 1979.
