Mahogany Tall Clock by David Williams, Newport, Rhode Island, c. 1800, with pierced fret top, three finial plinths and finials, freestanding stop-fluted columns flanking the arched and glazed hood door, tombstone-shaped door flanked by stop-fluted quarter-columns, French feet with scalloped apron and checkered inlay, 13 1/4 in. painted dial with Roman numerals, signed D. Williams, Newport , floral corners and rocking ship automaton flying the American flag in the arch, eight-day time and strike movement with strap iron pendulum rod, brass bob and two cast iron weights, ht. 91 in. Secondary wood appears to be chestnut, no wood analysis done, back board now reinforced by horizontal pine boards over the original backboard, fret, three finial plinths and finials are replacements.
