Brass Deep Sea Thermometer by Negretti and Zambra, London, with two 15 1/2 in. brass-encased glass thermometers calibrated in Celsius, both glass tubes and one brass enclosure marked with maker's name and origin, securing fixtures, chain and wooden box, lg. 18 1/2 in. Note: First invented in 1857 for Admiral Fitzroy, the present day model is employed for taking readings up to 15,000 feet deep and to withstand a pressure of seven tons without damage.
