Edward Hill (American, 1843-1923) Lot of Two Landscapes: Autumn Brook, Possibly the White Mountains, New Hampshire and Verdant Hills, Possibly Elephant Head, Crawford Notch, New Hampshire Brook signed "Edward Hill. " l.r., inscribed "Painted by Edward Hill/Oregon" on the stretcher, Verdant unsigned, with a label from Plymouth State College, Department of Art and Art Galleries, Plymouth, New Hampshire, affixed to the reverse. Oil on canvas, sizes to 17 1/4 x 13 1/2 in. (43.8 x 34.3 cm), framed. Condition: Brook with craquelure, Verdant lined, scattered retouch. Exhibitions: Verdant in Edward Hill: A Man of His Time, Plymouth State College, March 8-April 16, 1985. Brook with a few scattered areas of stable craquelure. The work might possibly benefit from a gentle cleaning. Verdant lined with wax adhesive. Retouch is scattered dashes and small areas. There are also a few small areas of extremely mild, stable craquelure.
