Small Needlework Sampler, "Harriet Killams Work," 19th century, done in silk threads on a fine gauze ground, with bowls of fruit, flowers, trees, a house, and a poem about a bird, enclosed by a strawberry vine, (scattered background losses), 9 x 7 in. , in original molded wood frame. No losses to the silk threads used in the design, but there are numerous small losses to the very fine linen gauze background fabric. The gauze has toned to a light tan color and the sampler is currently placed onto a similarly toned fabric so that the losses are fairly unobtrusive unless inspected from a close distance. The thread colors are still very bright compared to the color they show on the back. The threads used in Harriet's signature line blends into the toned background fabric.
