Shakudo Cup, Japan, 18th century, cast in the form of an archaic ritual bronze jue , the feet slightly curved upwards, cast separately and melded to the body, finely chased around the exterior with peonies borne on leafy stems, with the mark of fu (happiness) and shou (longevity) encircled in a medallion molded to either side, a pair of short posts on the mouth-rim, ht. 4 in. One post reattached to the mouthrim; oxidation to the gold
