Calligraphy, Yang Lien-Sheng (1914-1990), text can be roughly translated as "Crumbling pieces of old stuff in this little shop; In this humble room we talk about Buddha, Confucius and other spiritual matters. It is all about human feelings--we can make friends all around the four seas," dated yichou year (1985), 26 1/4 x 11 in. N.B. Yang Lien-Sheng was a professor emeritus at Harvard University, whose extensive research on Chinese history and Sinology spanned nearly four decades. He was the author of several books, including Money and Credit in China, a Short History , (Harvard University Press, 1952 and 1971). With Y. R. Chao; he also compiled the Concise Dictionary of Spoken Chinese , (Harvard University Press, 1947). In 1957, Professor Yang was presented with a gold medal by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China for achievement in the humanities. No damage.
