Spinach Green Jade Elephants, Japan, finely carved as a pair of elephants facing each other, standing on a rectangular plinth fitted with sterling silver mounts, inscribed on the base with maker's mark "Yamanaka 04636-48," plinth 14 1/2 x 4 1/8, elephant 5 1/4 x 4 3/8 in. Provenance: Descended in the estate of a Cambridge, Massachusetts, and New York City academic family.
