Bowenite Jade Vase and Cover, China, finely carved on either side with stylized taotie masks, the neck with a pair of lugs carved as birds in high relief, suspending a pair of loose ring pendants, with further small scrolls flanking the lower side of the body, the cover surmounted by a carved quail, wood stand, ht. 5 1/2 in. (7 3/4 in. with cover). Provenance: Collection of Melvin B. Nessel, Boston, Massachusetts. The lugs and loose rings broken off the cover (need to be reglued), natural fissures in the stone
