Wucai Baluster Vase and Cover, China, Transitional period, 17th century, painted with a scene from The Romance of the West Chamber , of Zhang Sheng on return to reunite with Cui Yingying after passing the civil service examination and being appointed to high office, the other side of the vase continued with garden scene of plantain trees growing in front of intricate rockwork in underglaze blue, the cover painted en suite with a repaired finial, ht. 15 in.
