Arabic Christian Icon Depicting the Crucifixion, likely Melkite, possibly Syria, 18th century, with Jerusalem in the background, identified in Latin, Greek, and Arabic, the Mother of God and John the Baptist at Christ's feet, the crucifix piercing a skull, 22 1/2 x 17 1/4 in. Large restored vertical crack down center. In-painting to lettering at INRI plaque, and to lettering to right of that. Repainting to area of ground to right of Christ's legs (around crack area). Some surface scratching, especially above St. John. Small bubble showing to gilded ground just below left corner of cross. some small bits of surface loss around crack. black border band repainted.
