Edwardian Paint-decorated Regency Satinwood and Inlay Tea Caddy, rectangular satinwood box, the hinged lid painted with floral swags centered by silver lifting handle, bat's wing fluting to corners, the front painted with two navette-shaped portraits profiles of ladies centered by vines and a bow and quiver, the sides and back with roundels of cavorting cherubs within foliate surrounds, interior with further floral painting, fitted with two lidded wells flanking an associated porcelain mixing bowl, ht. 6 3/8, wd. 12 3/4, dp. 6 1/2 in. box early 19th century. Painting early 20th century. shrinkage cracks to corners of lid, and to either side of escutcheon (one 1/4", one 1-1/4"). small area of veneer loss to lower left corner (approx. 1/2"). rear panel with shrinkage crack running horizontally through approx. 3/4 of the whole panel (and through the whole cherub roundel), with several shorter cracks at left side. one tea caddy need its lid reglued (currently comes off). light, short shrinkage crack to front edge of the other caddy lid (approx. 1/2"), and corners seams of frame for mixing bowl opening slightly, bowl with L-shaped hairline to one side (bowl bearing paper label for "Elinor Gordon Oriental Lowestoft Villanova PA").
