Set of Seven George III Hepplewhite Shield-back Inlaid Mahogany Dining Chairs, c. 1780, comprising two armchairs and five side chairs, each backrest carved with a wheatsheaf and inlaid with a satinwood fan, serpentine overupholstered seat and square, molded and tapered legs joined by stretchers, backrest ht. 36 3/4, seat ht. 19, wd. 18, dp. 16 1/2 in. Most in reasonably good condition with age typical minor defects with dry surface minor looseness in joints; note the following exceptions; Sidechairs: one with two cracks to splat and repair to joint near shield joint, chipped stretcher and replaced back seat rail; one with two small losses to fan inlay; one with crack to splat; loose joint to shieldback; one with replaced back seatrail and each side rail reinforced; one with loss to back of front right leg; Armchairs: one with cracked splat, very heavy usage and chewing to front legs with one replaced rail and one reinforced rail; one with piece off back foot (but present). One armchair with backrest now broken and in pieces.
