Chinese, 19th century Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). A very finely carved rectangular Duan stone carved box with rounded corners encasing a Songhua inkstone, the box lid with inlaid Song Hua and hardstone reticulated decoration at bottom below an inlaid fossilized fish bordered by hardstone, the box bottom without decoration. The accompanying inkstone of celadon jade green Songhua stone with recessed inkwell at top surrounded by cloud scrolls also conforming down top of ink plain, the border at bottom with further cloud scrolls, and to back of inkstone with two lines of calligraphic marks, possibly translating to "used in tranquility this inkstone will last many lifetimes" and with seal mark, possibly a Kangxi imperial reign mark. Box approximately 6.25" x 4.25" x 1.625". Stone approximately 5.75" x 3.75" x 1.75".
