German, 19th century. A stained walnut hall chair comprising a heavily carved back and leg supports and incised seat, the back comprising a crest with two c-scrolls centered by a shell over a central cartouche with incised lion flanked by two opposing high relief carved term figures with dragon heads, human female torsos, and downward pointing wings, centered by openwork interlacing scrolls terminating in grape leaves, the seat with curved edges decorated with incised scrolls and central incised leaf framed within an incised diamond frame, resting on front legs with conforming dragon term figures centered by an oval form crest and uncarved back leg of conforming form. Approximate height 44.75", width 14", depth 17.25".
