Amsterdam, c. 1648. Engraved map with hand-coloring depicting the American East Coast from the Chesapeake Bay to New England, oriented upwards, after a manuscript map by Adriaen Block. With decorative cartouche flanked by figures, a Mohawk village after a de Bry-White engraving, and various animals native to the area. This is the "first printed map that depicts canoes and North American fauna." (Schwartz and Ehrenberg, plate 58) Size of sheet 20 1/2 x 24 3/4 inches.
