Autographed letter signed ("CD"), one page, on Gad's Hill Place letterhead, May 17, 1870. In this letter, Dickens (1812-1870) writes to Charles Kent, editor of the Sun newspaper, just three weeks before he passed away. Dickens responds to Kent's inquiries about his health stating that he is suffering from a painful bout of "neuralgia" of the foot. Dickens would die from a stroke on June 9th, 1870. The last letter he wrote, on June 8th, 1870, was to his friend Charles Kent. Remnants of glue adhesive along left edge; slight smudging to ink in some places.
