Leather bound edition with gold and black illustration plates, color plates and ornate decoration black on large sheets. Book measures approximately 10.25" x 8" x 0.75". Note: The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám is the title that the translator of this work, Edward FitzGerald (English,1809-1883) provided for a selection of poems, originally written in Persian and numbering about a thousand, attributed to Omar Khayyám (Persian, 1048–1131), a poet, mathematician and astronomer. A ruba'i is a two-line stanza with two parts (or hemistichs) per line, hence the word rubáiyát (derived from the Arabic language root for "four"), meaning "quatrains".
