the first example Irish, late 19th century, having a carved wood handle depicting leaves, shamrocks and coiled snakes with a silver-plate collar engraved on a black oak shaft ending in a nickel silver ferrule and a steel tip; the second American, late 19th century, having a porcelain spherical handle decorated with flowers on a white ground with a silver collar on an osage orange shaft ending in a horn tip; the last American, circa 1930, having a bakelite handle emitting light when turned clockwise, with a metallic collar on an ebonized shaft ending in a plastic blackhorn tip. Length of first overall 34 1/2 inches.
