A pair of engravings from "L’Instruction du Roy en L’Exercise de Monter a Cheval" by Antoine de Pluvinel, dressage instructor to the young King Louis XIV, published in the 17th century, comprising of Figure 36 (3 Part) and Figure 34 (3 Part: a droicte). Figure 36 depicting the King on horseback wearing ornate period apparel, the horse performing Capriole, with male figures to the front and back of the horse, the scene set before a vast palatial garden landscape, inscribed within plate lower center "Figur. 36 3 Part", lower right "M. de Plu:", and in pencil lower left margin "M. la Ma. de Sou". Figure 34 depicting the young King on horseback, the horse performing Capriole while tethered to a pole within a riding ring with a second figure holding the tether secure beside the post and a dog looking on from the right, an inset scene to right with another Capriole scene within a riding ring with many onlookers, inscribed lower right "Figur. 34 3 Part: a droicte" and within inset "A gauche." Each framed approximately 15" x 19", sight size approximately 8.5" x 12".
