1900, Chicago, Illinois, titled depicting the head of Progress, removed in 1947. In 1898 Richard E. Schmidt was hired to add a tower to the existing building at 6 North Michigan Avenue. The pyramid form tower was topped with an 18 foot weathervane. Standing 394 feet high, the Montgomery Ward headquarters was the tallest building in Chicago until 1922. In 1947, the tower was dismantled and the Progress weathervane was removed. A Chicago Tribune article from July 20, 1947 reports that the weathervane was cut into thirty pieces before it was lowered and claimed by Chicagoans. Height 29 1/2 x width 20 inches.
