MINUTE REPEATER & CHRONOGRAPH FOR THE MARQUIS D'AUXY Swiss, No. 3226. Made circa 1880. Very fine and rare, minute-repeating, 18K gold hunting cased keyless pocket watch with chronograph. Four-body, bassine, polished, the front cover with applied gold monogram "AN" beneath a Marquis's coronet, the back cover engraved with the full coat of arms and the motto "Stirps Vera Nobilis Virtutum Opera" and "Et Toi Auxy", Hinged gold cuvette. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, outermost fifths of a second divisions with Arabic five-second numerals, subsidiary seconds. Gold spade hands. 19''', nickel plated, 31 jewels, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, Breguet balance spring, index regulator, repeating on gongs activated by a slide on the band. Case and movement numbered. Notes DIAM. 52 mm. The French Marquisate of Auxy dates back to the reign of Charles VII and was granted to David, sire d'Auxy after the Battle of Agincourt. His battle cry was "et toi auxy!" which became part of the family's motto and is engraved upon the present watch.
