COURVOISIER QUARTER-STRIKING CLOCK "VENUS DANS LE MIROIR" GILT BRONZE Courvoisier & Comp. , Swiss. Made circa 1810. Very fine and rare, gilt-bronze, eight day going, hour and quarter striking mantel clock. Rectangular ormolu base on four cast and chased spherical feet, the movement fitted in a rectangular case above, a cornucopia mount below the dial, surmounted by a dressing mirror in which the figure of Venus puts flowers in her hair, a wreath in her right hand, applied to the front with floral swags, to the right of the clock a flower urn and wreathed staff. White enamel with Arabic numerals, outer minute track, three winding apertures. Blued steel Breguet hands. Brass circular, three trains of wheels with going barrels, going train with anchor escapement, pendulum with silk suspension, striking on two bells independent trains for the hours and the quarters, the Neuchatel type striking work, set on the back plate.
