Donated by Mark McGwire and Oakley Notes Mark McGwire Here is a list of Mark McGwire ' s most prominent accomplishments over his career. • In 1998, he hit 70 homeruns in a single season breaking Roger Maris' single season record of 61. • McGwire is the only baseball player in history to hit over 50 homeruns in three consecutive seasons. (1996, 1997, 1998) • He was the first player in history to hit 30 homeruns in his first four seasons in the league. • In 1996, he reached the 50 homerun mark in the fewest at bats in a season. • In 1987, Mark McGwire was voted the American League Rookie of the Year, and he was only the second player in history to be voted on unanimously. During that year he also hit 49 homeruns. The Mark McGwire Foundation supports numerous charitable organizations.
