He began as a stand-up comic on the West Coast and then moved to New York where he worked under John Houseman, gaining early fame through his role on the TV sitcom "Happy Days", but it was his role as Mork from Ork in the TV spin off, "Mork and Mindy" which exposed him to a film career. His role in "Good Will Hunting" earned him the 1997 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, a role for which he also received the Screen Actors Guild award. He has also starred in numerous box office hits such as "Flubber", Jumanji" and "Mrs. Doubtfire " . Additionally, he has received three additional Best Actor Academy Award Nominations for his performances in "Good Morning Vietnam " , "Dead Poets' Society" and "The Fisher King". .
