Not signed, No 001, made in 1980 in Soviet Union. Very unusual and almost unique, centre second, specialized waterproof and pressure resistant, thick, rectangular "galbe", black metal, electric astronaute wristwatch with elasticized band. black, polished, satined, screwed back. white enamel with black enamel indexes and Arabic numerals. "Barton " blued steel hands. Cal. 3056, Russian with electrical gauging. Signed and numbered on the case. Dim. 58 mm. wide, 68 mm. high, 22 mm. thick. Notes This watch, made in the Soviet Union, was worn on his flight to space by Cosmonaut Leonid Popov on Soyuz 35, from 9 April to I1 October 1980 and presented to Cosmonaut Romanenko on Salyut- 6. Romanenko returned to earth on Soynz 38, from 18 to 26 September the saute year, and brought flue watch back. This timepiece had been designed specifically for working under water and in outer space itt conjunction with high pressure spacesuits. The bulky test watch was evidently awkward to work with, lbr Romanenko states that " In the flights that followed, cosmonauts used the watch made by the Omega Company for working operations in the open void". Autograph document signed by Romanenko says : -file most unique pressure-tight electrical-mechanic wristwatch No 0(11 is made by Soviet specialists as a dedicated device for working operations under water and in the open space.
