Patek Philippe & Cie, Geneve, N° 25307, made in 1864, sold on 15 July 1865. Very fine and rare 18K gold early keyless watch with dead independent seconds train. . D. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer minutes and second ring. Blued-steel Breguet han Notes Due to the rigid coupling of both barrels via the stem winding system, the independent train barrel has no stop-work and is fitted with the earliest form of "free" driving spring, patent No. 5894 by Adrien Philippe, dated June 16th, 1863. A very similar watch, but with gilt-brass movement, is described and illustrated by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery in Palek Philippe Pocket Watches, Second Edition, 1991, p. 235, coloured plates 161 a and b.
