Siegmund Albrecht, Kortum Regens, circa 1875. Fine gilt-brass and silver reproduction of a watch from the 17th century. Square, fully overlaid with a very fine openwork silver engraved decoration of strawberry scrolls and foliage. Gilt-brass chapter ring with Roman numerals and half-hour divisions. Single blued-steel hand. Square gilt-brass full plate with square baluster pillars, partly made with spare pieces from 18th century watches, fusee with gut line (lacking), verge escapement, plain brass three arm balance, giltbrass irregular cock secured by a screw, worm-andwheel set-up with pierced blued-steel brackets. Apocryphal signature on the back plate. Dim. 45 x 39 mm. Notes Mainly produced by Kirk and Schwartz in Munich, circa 1875, such watches were sold as facsimiles of watches dating from the Renaissance; they were made for decoration only and were not intended to tell the time. Even if the movement of this watch is of better than that of the other watches of this type, the case is very nicely made and very similar to that of watches of this type, made in the 17th century.
