Hen. Dr.Vollenhove, Amsterdam, circa 1710. Very fine and rare, silver pair-cased, moon phase astronomical watch with indication of Amsterdam high tide. Double body outer, and inner "bassine" with split bezel, both polished. Silver champleve with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minutes ring, apertures for the high tide time, dates, phases and age of the moon. Gilt-brass Louis XV hands. Hinged gilt brass with Egyptian pillars, verge escapement, plain steel three arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt-brass Dutch cock pierced and engraved with foliage. Signed on the dial and the back plate. Diam. 56 mm. Notes Watches with indication of high tides, are very rare; they were made for the sailors who need to know the exact time in order to leave the harbour.
