Patek Philippe & Cie. , Genève, No. 54214, circa 1875. Rare and interesting, silver, keyless inking chronograph with 60-minute register. three-body, “bassine et filets”, engine-turned back cover, reeded band, pushbutton at 11 o’clock for start/stop, and at 1 o’clock for return-to-zero. white enamel with 60-seconds Arabic chapter calibrated to fifth of a second, minute register at 12 o’clock. Typical pointer hand with ink bowl at the end and discharging pointer. Notes This is a fine example of the final development of the inking chronograph, invented by Rieussec in 1821 and perfect-ed by Fatton for Breguet in 1823. Patek Philippe made a very limited number of them over a span of about 15 years, between 1877 and 1892. Roughly twelve are known to exist today.
