Portrait of a GentlemanUnsigned, Geneva, circa 1790. Fine and very rare 18 ct. gold, blue chalcedony and enamel miniature picture frame form watch with a special escapement. Rectangular piece of blue chalcedony within a gold chased frame, the watch set in the middle, the back with a miniature on ivory within a gold frame with blue enamel borders matching the chalcedony, diamond-set bezel. White enamel, Arabic numerals, outer minute dot divisions and Arabic fifteen minutes. Blued-steel Breguet hands. 12.9 mm o, hinged gilt brass full plate, fixed barrel, virgule escapement, plain three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, continental two-footed cock pierced and engraved in rocailles.Dim. 51 x 42 mm. Published in the Sandberg book, page 392-393. Notes The movement is one of the smallest ever made during the period. Its being fitted with a virgule escapement, as well as its extremely light weight, makes it extremely rare. Total weight, including dial and hands: 2,1 grams.
