Breguet et Fils, No. 3011 / 2110, sold to Sultan Beykan in June 1818 for 4000 francs.Very fine and rare, large, 20 ct. gold and enamel 'cabriolet' quarter repeating watch with a special escapement, made for the Islamic market. Accompanied by the Breguet certificate No. 3781, delivered in December 1982. By Joly. Outer: two-body, the back in red translucent champlev? enamel over barleycorn engine-turning, with opaque pink enamel and gold work including laurel wreaths and crowns of bay leaves. Inner: four-body, similarly decorated, but with an opaque blue enamel cusped hexagon in the centre, surrounded by gold foliate and palm leaf decoration, gold hinged cuvette. By Lucard. White enamel with Turkish numerals, outer minute ring with Turkish 15-minute marks, small gold eight-pointed compassose in the centre, secured by a screw. Double secret signature under the 12, one in Arabic, the other in French. Blued-steel Breguet hands. Notes The use of 20 ct. gold is another indication of the superior quality of the case, although Breguet used all three French gold standards for his cases, that is 18 ct., 20 ct. and 22 ct.A 'cabriolet' case is one in which the inner case can be inserted either way, making the watch a hunting-cased or an open-face watch. The watch was shipped to Leroy, Breguet's agent in Constantinople, on September 27, 1817, who sold it to Sultan Beykan in June of the following year.Breguet et FilsFor a biography, see page 229
