Richard Masterson, London, circa 1640. Very fine and rare silver single-hand pendant watch in the form of an oval scallop shell, with concealed dial. 26 x 35 mm, oval, gilt brass full plate, early Egyptian pillars, fusee and gut-line for the going train, verge escapement, twoarm steel circular foliot, elongated pinned cock asymmetrically pierced and engraved with floral decoration, wheel and click set-up.Signed on the movement.Dim. 30 x 57 mm. Published in the Sandberg book, pages 72-73. Notes Masterson Richardwas admitted as a member of the Clockmakers' Company in 1633 and made Master of the Company in 1642. He was a subscriber for the incorporation of the Clockmakers' Company, and died in 1653.
