Very fine and rare silver single-hand pendant watch. 27.8 mm o, gilt brass full plate, vase pillars, fusee and gut-line for the going train, verge escapement, two-arm steel balance, elongated gilded pinned cock, pierced and engraved, wheel and clickset-up with similarly pierced and engraved cock.Signed on the back plate.Diam. 35 mm. Published in the Sandberg book, pages 58-59. Notes Barthélémy Cuperwho descended from a family of watchmakers, settled in Blois in 1613. In an act of 1618 he is described as 'watchmaker to the Queen'. He was named 'juré' in 1632, and died in 1638. His two sons, Jacques and Barthélémy, also became watchmakers.
