Unsigned, Geneva, circa 1820. Very fine 18 ct. gold and enamel, pearl-set two-train hour-striking musical watch with quarter repeating and centre seconds, accompanied by its original enamelled key suspended from a knotted silk cord, with a small carved rectangle of jade, a tiny ring also of jade, a piece of rose quartz cut in the shape of a flower and some small seed pearls. White enamel, Roman chapters, outer minute and fifth-second divisions, fifteen-minute Arabic numerals. Blued-steel Breguet hands. Notes It is with this watch that the celebrated Sandberg collection began in the early 1970s. Lord Sandberg discovered it in a Hong Kong warehouse belonging to the China Arts Lot Crafts organisation, was captivated by music and the beauty of its enamels, and bought it on impulse, for the equivalent of $500 dollars !
