Louis XV Boulle Clock French. Made circa 1740. Very fine, gilt bronze, tortoiseshell and brass inlaid, quarter striking, 8-day going bracket clock with matching wall bracket. On solid rocaille and scroll-shaped feet, tortoiseshell and brass inlaid carcase, ormolu mounts on the shoulders terminating to portrait busts of ladies, cresting at the top, inlaid floor and back wall, glazed and hinged ormoulu front door with flower and scroll ormolu appliqué, top with an ormolu figure of a goddess seated on the back of an eagle on a cloud, matching bracket. Black radial Roman numerals on white enamel cartouches, set in gilt brass chased mask. Blued steel "fleur-de-lis and beetle" hands. Rectangular, 12 x 13.5 cm, brass, going barrels, verge escapement, pendulum with brass bob, silk suspension, large double count wheel on the back plate, striking the hours and quarters on two bells mounted on top of the case. Signed on dial and movement. Dim. Width 45 cm, height 120 cm (including bracket).
