John H. Belter (American/ German, 1804-1863), third quarter 19th century. A Rococo Revival rosewood slipper chair in the Rosalie pattern, the back comprising seven layers of lamination, decorated with the flower carvings and intricate scrolls of the Rosalie pattern, comprising a crest with a high relief-carved rose garland over scrolls, surmounting the elaborate openwork back decorated with large scrolls outer and smaller central scrolls with flourishes, terminating in two cornucopias, the slipper seat upholster in aquamarine and beige striped silk fabric with a conforming double row of cording, over the serpentine seat rail with high relief carved rosette, the two front legs comprising knee blocks with conforming high relief carved rosettes terminating in acanthus scroll front feet, and raking back legs, all raised on casters. Approximate height 43", width 18.5", depth 21", seat to floor 15".
